You should eat protein, such as fish and shellfish, poultry, meat, eggs, and cheese, at every meal. You don't need to restrict oils and fats, but you can't have most fruits, sugary baked goods, breads, pastas, grains, nuts or alcohol. You should drink eight glasses of water a day. You stay in this phase for at least two weeks, depending on your weight loss.
Thank you for your kind words, Cecilia! That's a good point! I haven't used collagen powder in bread before but I did use it in my Czech Butter Cake (in my Beginner's Keto Diet Cookbook, ketodietapp.com/books). It worked great so I think it can be used here instead of whey protein powder too. Just make sure not to confuse collagen powder (= hydrolyzed gelatin) with regular gelatin powder.
Most of us LOVE dairy products in all shapes and forms, but it’s possible that skipping or reducing them in your diet could speed up your weight loss and be beneficial for your health. This is because dairy products contain not only milk sugar (lactose), but also milk protein (casein), which stimulates insulin secretion more than many other types of protein, and can trigger overeating.
Healthy fats & oils are back in too: Eating fat does not automatically clog the blood vessels in the way that poring oil down the drain will eventually block the drain. You make your own cholesterol and lipids and are more likely to increase your levels of the more damaging Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLD), which is made in the liver when you eat a high carbohydrate diet.
Low-carb diets may help prevent or improve serious health conditions, such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. In fact, almost any diet that helps you shed excess weight can reduce or even reverse risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Most weight-loss diets — not just low-carb diets — may improve blood cholesterol or blood sugar levels, at least temporarily.

Exercise reduces appetite. It is good for general cardiovascular fitness and strength, but is a hard way to lose weight. If you find it hard to exercise, simply moving more has significant health benefits and can increase your metabolic rate. Get up and move around every half hour, walk don’t take the bus, stairs instead of lift…Get a pedometer and try to increase your steps by 10% each week.
There is extensive evidence for the benefit of the Mediterranean style low carb diet, including cutting your risk of heart disease and diabetes. It has even been found to reduce risk the risk of breast cancer, compared with those on a low-fat diet. Consuming extra virgin olive oil (the fresh squeezed juice of olives) seems to be particularly beneficial when it comes to cancer, perhaps because it contains compounds such as polyphenols which are known to be anti-inflammatory.
I'm sorry to hear that Marjolijn! This could be due to the type of psyllium - did you use powder or ground whole husks? I tried a few more ways to make this bread but never managed to re-create that hollow effect. It only happened to me once with another keto bread (see image in this post: The Best Low-Carb & Paleo Bread - The Ultimate Guide). It could be down to over-processing the dough or using too much baking powder.
As for if you’re dealing with health issues, you really have to defer to your doctor. For instance, if you have kidney disease, you also want to talk to your doctor about appropriate protein intake. If you have heart disease, you can still go low carb, but you may be better off opting for monounsaturated fats (avocados, nuts, and olive oil) over saturated fats (butter and red meat). Everyone’s cholesterol levels respond differently on a low-carb diet, so if yours are going up, switch to unsaturated sources of fats, Spritzler recommends. “In general, this is a diet most people can do. If you have a chronic condition, work with a doctor who understands low-carbohydrate diets to monitor you,” she adds.

This easy recipe from Keto Connect requires only three ingredients and comes in at only two grams of carbs per half avocado. You can follow their delicious Mexican Shredded Chicken recipe or if you’re short on time you can create your own filling to your own tastes. Plenty of healthy fats from the cheese and avocado means you’ll probably be full after just one.
“My family's favorite bread hands down is Schmidt Oldtyme 647 Wheat Bread," says Harris-Pincus. "It contains only 40 calories and six grams of net carbs per slice, along with seven grams of fiber.” Plus, it tastes like regular white bread, she says, so you'll totally forget you're eating low-carb bread. It's available in many supermarkets and even Costco.
I don't recommend ready-made psyllium husk powder. I've baked dozens of keto breads and I made all of them using whole psyllium husks that I powdered myself. Ready-made psyllium husk powder is often too fine and makes any keto bread too dense, flat and heavy. Sometimes the bread would also get a purple hue and an ammonia-like aftertaste (although that may be related to rancid flax meal). Trust me, you don't want any of these in your low-carb bread!
From corn to wheat to Ancient grains, La Tortilla Factory offers an array of wholesome tortillas in different sizes. The main dietary focus of the Atkins Diet is eating the right balance of carbohydrates, protein and fats for optimal weight loss and health. According to the Atkins Diet, obesity and related health problems, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, are the fault of the typical low-fat, high-carbohydrate American diet. The Atkins Diet says that you don't need to avoid fatty cuts of meat or trim off excess fat. Rather, controlling carbs is what's important.
