Although oil or butter is high in calories, it is very slowly digested and surprisingly does not significantly increase your blood sugar. It makes vegetables taste better and can improve the absorption of certain vitamins and the essential vitamins A, D, E & K are only found in certain fats & oils. Avoid foods containing trans-fats (usually processed foods). Use oils such as olive oil, rapeseed oil or coconut oil. It also helps you feel full for longer so be more generous

Low-carb diets may improve high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and triglyceride values slightly more than do moderate-carb diets. That may be due not only to how many carbs you eat but also to the quality of your other food choices. Lean protein (fish, poultry, legumes), healthy fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) and unprocessed carbs — such as whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products — are generally healthier choices.
Dave's Killer Bread's best-selling bread, 21 Whole Grains and Seeds, now offers a thin-sliced option that's lower in carbs and calories. While their original version has 22 grams of carbs per slice, Dave's Killer Bread 21 Whole Grains and Seeds Thin-Sliced has only 12 grams of carbs and 3 grams of dietary fiber per slice (net carbs = 9 grams). Both versions are organic and the thin-sliced version still delivers 140 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids and 13 grams of whole grains per 60 calorie slice.

I have made this twice now using almond flour, coconut flour and whey protein isolate powder only (so no sesame or flax) and it has turned out wonderfully both times, if a little flatter than yours. The second time I realised I had to powder the psyllium husks, though, which I had neglected to do the first time! I don't think it made a huge difference, though. The second time I also dehydrated the loaf in the oven after baking, as advised, for 30 minutes at 100 C, and it did help make it a little less moist, so thank you very much for that tip 😊 One more question, please -- if I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast, what should I change? Should I skip the first step (dissolving the yeast in sugar/yacon syrup/honey and proving in the oven with the light on) and mix it directly into the dry ingredients? (I did read your note in the blog post that said this, but I just want to make sure, I don't want to mess it up! 😊 ) And will I still need honey or sugar or yacon syrup? Thanks again!

A low-carb replacement for a hamburger bun, a portobello mushroom has just 3 grams of carbs and 1 gram of dietary fiber (net carbs = 2 grams) per 20 calorie piece. A brown crimini mushroom in disguise (once a small brown crimini grows in size to 4 to 6 inches in diameter, it is considered a portobello), mushrooms provide over a dozen vitamins and minerals, as well as several powerful antioxidants for good health. Whether you choose to grill or bake them, portobello mushrooms provide a more substantial mouthfeel as compared to other bread alternatives.
I'm sorry to hear that Marjolijn! This could be due to the type of psyllium - did you use powder or ground whole husks? I tried a few more ways to make this bread but never managed to re-create that hollow effect. It only happened to me once with another keto bread (see image in this post: The Best Low-Carb & Paleo Bread - The Ultimate Guide). It could be down to over-processing the dough or using too much baking powder.

Preferred foods in all categories are whole, unprocessed foods with a low glycemic index, although restrictions for low glycemic carbohydrates (black rice, vegetables, etc.) are the same as those for high glycemic carbohydrates (sugar, white bread). Atkins Nutritionals, the company formed to market foods that work with the diet, recommends that no more than 20% of calories eaten while on the diet come from saturated fat.[14]

Using vegetables as alternatives to carbohydrates is a great way of creating meals which are gluten-free, as well as being low carb. Adam Gray uses cauliflower as the base for his gluten-free pizza recipe, while Monica Shaw creates a delicious low carb biryani using cauliflower rice. Courgetti recipes are becoming increasingly popular as people swap their spaghetti for spiralisers – try Emma Potts' healthy recipe of Courgetti with Piccolo tomatoes, corn and herb dressing.

From corn to wheat to Ancient grains, La Tortilla Factory offers an array of wholesome tortillas in different sizes. If you want to cut costs even more you can replace the avocado in the tuna salad (if you are not lucky enough to find avocados on sale) with more vegetables. A drizzle of some extra olive oil on the salad will compensate for the reduction of fat from the avocado. You can also substitute any of cheeses in the recipes for other types of cheese that you may find on sale.

The main dietary focus of the Atkins Diet is eating the right balance of carbohydrates, protein and fats for optimal weight loss and health. According to the Atkins Diet, obesity and related health problems, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, are the fault of the typical low-fat, high-carbohydrate American diet. The Atkins Diet says that you don't need to avoid fatty cuts of meat or trim off excess fat. Rather, controlling carbs is what's important.
